Earl Ard, 77, of Silsbee, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at his home. Funeral service was Friday, April 13 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following in Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred. Born in Silsbee, he retired in 2005 from TxDOT with 46 years service. He was a United States Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Betty Ard of Silsbee; daughters, Katrina Terry and husband Derrick of Silsbee and Renee Mitchell and husband Hank of Lumberton; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jesse Lawrence English III, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at the age of 67. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Churchin Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Beaumont. Committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium. He practiced law in Beaumont and Silsbee for many years. He also taught courses at Lamar Institute of Technology. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Kathy; children, Kate, Lawrence and wife Rachel, and Ellis and husband Daniel; sister, Frances; and three grandchildren.

Edna Pitts

Edna Earl Pitts, 90, of Silsbee, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, April 16, 2018. She was a long-time resident of Silsbee, Texas. Edna’s passion was spending time with her family, genealogy, history and writing. She was one of the original founders of the Hardin County Genealogy Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Ray Pitts; and son, Stephen Todd Pitts. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Gilmore and son-in-law, Fran Gilmore, also, daughter-in-law, Bertha Pitts and six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren that she adored. Edna will be greatly missed by all those who knew her and loved her. The family will receive friends at Farmer Funeral Home on Monday, April 23, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Francis Gilmore and Pastor Linda Gilmore. Interment will follow at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery.

Dr. Jay Benton, 62, of Silsbee, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Memorial services were held Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville. Officiating was Brother Billy Kilpatrick and longtime friend, Judge Jacques L. Blanchette. Honorary pallbearers were Rodney Spell, Kyler Spell, Odis Gore, Tracy King, Cody Crosby, and Ken Hebert. Jay was born December 25, 1955 to J.A. & Ann Benton in Woodville, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Tyler County and owned & operated Silsbee Animal Clinic. He was a graduate of Sam Houston State University and received his Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine from Texas A & M University. He was a member of the Texas A & M Alumni Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association and a supporter of the FFA. He was preceded in death by his father, J.A. Benton. He is survived by his mother, Ann Benton of Colmesneil; brother, Ronnie Benton of Margate, Florida; sisters, Teresa Durham & husband, Randy of Woodville and Barbara Benton of Colmesneil; niece, Erika Myers; nephew, Randy C. Durham; great niece, Madilyn Myers; and great nephew, Maddox Myers. Memorials may be made to the Texas A & M Veterinarian Medicine Foundation, 401 George Bush Dr., College Station, Texas 77840.

Rev. Oliver Davis

Rev. Oliver H. "Dave" Davis, 84, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on April 12, 2018. He was born on September 19, 1933 to Joseph and Mary Davis in Port Neches, Texas. He served in the U.S Navy during the Korean conflict stationed in Hawaii. Dave always served small United Methodist churches. He had four distinct calls to the ministry, interspersed with years of making a living as a salesman, but God would not let go and Dave returned to the ministry time after time. He pastored many small Methodist churches in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and New Mexico. While in Sanderson, Texas, he married his late-in-life bride Lenora, who loved and supported him with unwavering devotion throughout their 24 years of marriage. He retired from the New Mexico UMC conference in 1996 and returned to his roots in Southeast Texas, near where he grew up. He was preceded in death by brother, Leonard “Deac” Davis of San Antonio, Texas and Elaine Shattuck of Rusk, Texas. He is survived by wife, Lenora Davis; son, Curt Davis; daughter, Sharon Hoyt; and 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Jeffrey worked as a plumber and was a member of Pine Lodge #642 A.F. & A.M. in Kountze. Survivors include his wife of twenty-six years, Tonya Warden; parents, Elaine and Richard Warden; children, Jonathan Tyler Warden and his wife, Alexus; Jarrod Zachary Warden; and Jacqueline Mechelle Warden; grandchildren, Paislee Warden and Maddox Warden; brother, Jeremy Warden and his wife, Lavonda; and nieces, Mallory, Jada, Jena, and Jacie Warden, all of Kountze. Jeffrey is preceded in death by his brother, Jonathan Wade Warden; and grandparents, Electra and Norman Warden and Pearl and Clarence McCoy. A gathering of Mr. Warden’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Kountze, 100 West Monroe Street, Kountze. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 29, 2018, with is interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze

Lanny Robert Brasher, 81, of Lumberton, passed away Friday, April 22, 2018 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Born in Vivian, Louisiana, he was a United States Navy veteran and retired from DuPont after many years. Survivors include his wife Betty Brasher of Lumberton; daughter, Kristy Lee of Dallas; brothers, Bill Brasher and wife Beverly of Arkansas and Charlie Brasher of Mississippi; step-children, Terry Kasseroler of Clear Lake, Tammy Hargraves of Fannett and Troy Leger of Nederland; and three grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren. Lanny’s wishes were to donate his body to science under the direction of Broussard’s in Beaumont. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
