Martin McKinney

Martin McKinney, 94, of Silsbee, passed away on Saturday, December. 4, 2017, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Martin was born in Melvid, Texas, on Jan. 28, 1923, to Albert and Myra McKinney. Martin proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a SSGT in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. A life-long resident of Silsbee, he made many contributions to the community as a volunteer firefighter. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Federation of Eagle Local 777, Crystal Beach and Knights of Pythius. He was also a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Silsbee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Myra McKinney; wife, Nena McKinney; brothers, Peroy McKinney, Phillip McKinney and Albert McKinney; sisters, Edna Denson, Edith Strickland, Martha Booth and Myra Wedgeworth. Martin is survived by his son, Jerry McKinney of Silsbee; daughter, Carolyn Hawkins of Silsbee; brother, Pete McKinney of Silsbee; grandchildren, Trent, Brady, Lesly, Russell and Christy and great grandchildren, Gavin, Jack, Nate, Gavin, Riley and Bella. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 9, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at First Pentecostal Church, 1403 N 5th St, Silsbee, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m., with Rev. Robert Wedgeworth officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Trent Grubbs, Brady Grubbs, Russell Hawkins, Shane McKinney, Chris McKinney and Brandon McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg McKinney and Allan McKinney. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association and the Wounded Warrior Association.
